Fuel Consumption on Audi Multitronic

I've heard reports that Audis fitted with the multitronic transmission use much more fuel than the equivalent manual cars.

I'm thinking of getting a new mk2 A4 soon, does anyone have any direct experience of this?

Had a Multitronic A6 since June.

It's the 2.4 (petrol) and the consumption has varied between 31 and 34 over a tankful.

Laterly I've played with the gearbox a bit more and, if anything, consumption is improving! Can't really fault it!
