Golf MK6 Free Play in Steering

Hi,

2009 Golf MK6 2.0 TDI 205k

About an inch of free play in the steering wheel, when car switched off.

Had this issue before at about 150k - failed MOT

Then fitted a second hand rack from a car with ""only 50k on it"""

Is free play in the rack a common issue - with this car?

Common issue i believe, I had a clunking noise in a 2008 Mk5 that took me ages to diagnose and turned out to be the rack.
Think a recon unit was £450 and needed coding from memory but I did it myself.
