VW Extended Warranty
Discussion
The 2 year approved used warranty on my GTI Clubsport is about to end. Has anyone purchased or looked into the VW extended warranty to see if it's worthwhile?
A quote for a year gives:
Essentials: £254
Standard: £388.00
Plus: £431.00
Essentials covers engine/gearbox/transmission, so that might be worthwhile, but the other levels seem unduly expensive.
Any thoughts?

my advice would be to get the roadside assist included.
I had a coolant leak on my Golf GTI. An enquiry with my local dealer about it getting looked at involved a very vague reply about getting it booked in for diagnosis, but they were really busy and would need the car 'for a few days' and they 'werent sure' if a courtesy car would be supplied.
The next time the low coolant light came on I phoned roadside assist. Coolant leak confirmed 1hr later by the guy they sent out. Car booked into VW dealer for next day, hire car would be made available when I dropped mine off. All fixed and covered under the warranty.

I got one when I bought my Polo GTI three years ago. Had a breakdown over new year bad misfire, I self diagnosed as coil packs. Thought it would be covered by warranty so took it in. They diagnosed as carbon contamination of inlet valves and spark plugs which wasn’t covered. Cost me £1000 for plugs and walnut blasting but still had the misfire so they did coil packs as well which fixed it.
I could have done the coils myself for £200. So in my specific experience I’d recommend against it. Also the ‘dealer’ extended warranty was actually a third party one even though it was sold to me as VW dealer warranty.
