Evening chaps. I am removing the wishbones on my 92 4.3 Griff and would like to put new bolts back on the wishbones. Anyone know what size they are, metric imperial etc, so I can order through Namric nuts and bolts. I know most are a 16mm spanner and a couple 19mm but not sure if they are UNF thread ?

They are all imperial UNF 1/2" and 7/16". Length will be specified in inches with steps of 1/4". Back in the day you could get them in 1/8" steps. The very long ones you may not be able to find at all. We have had to have them custom made.

Do not use stainless.

Smother them in copper grease when you assemble.

You need one of these, but for a Chimaera/Griffith wink

A lot will actually be the same as they all use Ford Sierra brakes and hubs but some are different.

There is a huge list I have bookmarked for a Chimaera. they will likely be the same?

https://chimrebuild.wordpress.com/12-reference/

The larger bolts are 1/2 UNF and the smaller ones 7/16 UNF. That's the bolt shank size. I used all new nyloc nuts when I changed my front wishbones, and replaced the more shonky washers. They are cheap.

And for torque settings:

The 1/2" bolts used 3/4" diameter nuts (which is almost exactly 19mm), but the 7/16" bolts use 5/8" outside diameter nuts (15.88mm, close but with how tight you'll find them to be, not close enough to 16mm). Most socket sets don't have 16mm in my experience, often going from 15mm to 17mm!

Rounded off nuts?

Get some imperial spanners/sockets and do it properly.

Having recently done full refurb of my Griff. If you have both af and metric sockets use six sided won't have a problem

What is your point in quoting me? I was informing the OP that he DID need imperial to do it properly.

It has been fitted with adjustable shocks and upgraded discs at some point. Maybe they changed the bushes too. I am wondering if they put metric bolts back in ? But would this affect how they fit into the bushes ?

What makes you think that?

There is no metric equivalent to a 1/2" bolt, the nearest 12mm would be a very sloppy fit!

Similarly a 10mm bolt (11mm is not a standard size) in place of a 7/16" would be a bodge.

Do it the easy way.............. bolts

A little misunderstanding, it read to me as if you were suggesting a 16mm socket would do the job, if his socket set contains one?

.... and nuts aren't round biggrin
