Evening, just wondering fitting Clive ford equal length manifolds to a 4.3 bv pre cat Griff would it be worth having the Act trumpets upgrade ? also the pre heater on plenum chamber is it really necessary the cooler the better, a friend who has a ginetta bypassed not had a problem. It's not that used in the winter guess there two schools of thought here

72mm plenum would help too. As would the twin or triple plenum. How much do you want to spend.

72mm would need the preheater and plumbing deleting.

Oh, and a cam.

Equal length manifolds will change the sound of the exhaust as well. Personally, I like it.

I've bypassed the plenum heater - no problems at all
Makes it easier to remove the plenum if needed - no water to drain!

Cheers Andy

I'm surprised to see one with the plenum heater actually being utilised! Must be an early model, pre-cat thing. In my experience, later models and all Chimaera have bare metal pipes not connected to anything. I stand to be corrected.

Wedges have them 'utilised'. Deleted mine though and reconfigured the pipe work to 'self bleed' - ie the SD1 arrangement. Don't know why TVR put any thought to not using it as factory set up.

The water heating part is to reduce icing/sticking of the butterfly (an old carb problem" in cold weather) but seeing as the fuel supply to the engine is nowhere near (fuel the catalyst to the phenomenon) thats never going to be a problem especially in our climate

Just remove the hoses if you remove the plate you will need to refit some screws to blank the open ended holes 1/4 UNC

I’ve got one of Jools (Kits& classics) machined plenum bases- no trumpets at all to fall out & roll about-

Griffdude, you got me thinking. Straight swap ? Price difference is marginal between Act trumpets. Same results could be interested

Yep, Jools blended base is a work of art almost too nice to be hidden away under the plenum. As Simon says if you remove the heater plate one of the holes goes straight through so will need blanking with a bolt. Just make sure the bolt end finishes flush with the inside of the plenum otherwise you will get a nice whistling sound every time you open the throttle.
