Anyone know the best place to source new door mirrors?
I think they are from a Citroen (jaguar supercar) originally.
Car is a 1996 Griffith 500. Alternatively has anyone done a conversion to the SE mirrors? Is is very involved (expensive)?

Just the glass or the whole unit?

Is the base a bit floppy? You can get ally base replacements that address the lack of strength and adjustment issues.

Change to SE mirrors is 'easy'. They are VW Corrado mirrors. Fibreon do adapter plates to retro fit them. Or you could get the doors reworked. If you go to Corrado mirrors then get blue tint mirrors with concave ends. Really improve rear / side visibility.

Wiring can be a challenge trying to identify and match up the motors and heating bits.

Check out Fibreon's vented Grief bonnet whilst you're on their site. Pic of partial bonnet in this thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

This is how the Corrado mirrors are fitted on the VW doors with two fixings from the outside into captive nuts in the door. The mirror stem is rotated 90 deg' either way to expose one fixing at a time, no twisting of wiring etc
.

When I bought my Chim it had already been converted to these mirrors however the paintwork was all blistered around the mount so this had to be resolved when it went for respray. When the bodyshop started digging into the blisters they found the mirror conversion consisted of cutting the whole steel mount you see in your picture and glassing it into the top of the door. The blistering was it all going rusty.

Mine, with Fiberon adaptors.

The adaptors are more expensive than the mirrors! And you need to grind the metal bits under the mirror stalk to get a flush fit.
The wiring was well covered by a thread on here when I fitted mine, and it includes wiring diagrams. Mine still aren't quite right, but I have just given up.

I just started searching the local VW breakers when I was buying mine.
I agree with Stewart - get convex glasses for them, as they are somewhat smaller than the Citroen mirrors and the nearside view is restricted
