H,

I had a look to the engine compartment of 1995 Griffith 500, RHD car.

I have identified a heavily damaged hose nearby the exhaust tube on the drivers side. See pics below with arrow.

I am wondering what this hose is for and my best guess is that is for the carbon canister. However, I have a fully vented fuel tank since the fuel cap is not air tight. see https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

My question is:

should I need to replace this hose or not due to vented fuel neck?

If needed, can I just replace the perished section since accessing to the carbon canister location is described as very difficult?

Many thanks for your help

If you are pointing at the hose that fits to the plenum then yes it is for the carbon canister.
If you no longer have the canister in use then the hose can be removed. You will need to close the fitting where the hose connects to the plenum or replace the fitting with a blanking plug.

Thanks Steve.

yes I am pointing at the hose coming from the plenum.

However I do not know if my carbon canister system is still working or not. Does venting at the fuel neck imply that the carbon canister system cannot work any more?

Just looked at your link and have to say I have never seen a vent there on the filler and it makes no sense for the very reason that it will fill with water.

So before we go on I would either find a replacement filler neck or have that one repaired to close that vent. As was said in the link there is a vent lower down the filler neck.

To replace the hose at the plenum you will need to work through the grill or from the panel in the wheel arch. Dis connect the old hose and use it to pull through a new hose.

Thanks Steve for your advice

Yes I must admit I had never seen too any thing like this opening in the filler neck before in particular located at this point.

I had a look at tvr parts shop and could not find a replacement filler neck. I will try silicone as a temporary solution unless you tell me it's a stupid idea and will replace the hose.

Thanks again

The filler neck is steel. I'm sure you could find a local craftsman who could either weld the hole or solder a patch over it. (after removing from the car)
I would have my doubts about using silicon.
