After trying to get my gauge working closer to the actual temperature my sensor measures 26 ohms at 90c but the gauge needs 9.5 ohms to read 90c. This seems to show that the gauge needs over 1 amp current to show 90c, this seems high for a gauge; any thoughts guys?

No, the old smiths gauges used a hot wire heater on a bi metal strip to move the dial, witch is great for things like fuel, as it damps the needle movement as the fuel sloshes around. No idea whats in the TVR however.
