Hello All, I changed my Griff 500 air filter over the weekend and after many expletives and cut knuckles I’ve concluded the design is terrible for access and also sealing of the actual air filter to the fibreglass box. The air filter seal just only just rests against the fibreglass box edge and is only clamped at the ends of the box. This clearly creates a poor seal in the middle section. Has anyone made a better solution? Perhaps a circular k&n replacing the filter box? Or extra brackets in the middle of the box to pull the box down onto the seal.

Agreed, awful bloody design, yet another part of the car, that sorely lacked development !!

Edge sealing to the foam is fine, almost desirable compared to face sealing, but obviously poor access and not enough clamps so it doesn't seal in the middle is rubbish!

When I replaced my filter, I ensured the faces were nice and clean and then carefully checked that the rubber surround was best fit ( as best you can with the fibreglass aperture !). I then applied some sealant material with a hand held gun, and wedged the upper housing in place with some wood, for 24 hrs - until the sealant has gone off, and cured. The end result was a nicely sealed filter. You need to have the car well jacked up so you can see underneath and see how well its sealed. A right old faff really, and as previously mentioned, should be improved to make it easier to fit, and a have a better seal.

I just take the housing out completely remove the old filter clean up the interface and bond the new filter on with silicon, then re-fit the next day.

Yes, tried that but it’s such a tight fit I couldn’t get the dam thing back in. The only way was placing the filter in first then sliding the box over the top.

Still thinking a round K&N replacement.
