Any ideas.. Been getting it a while now. Its only when hot 90+ and maybe heat soaked so in a town, only on acceleration and sometimes if you hold it at that RPM. when you pass through it’s like a chiiiiiing noise.. RPM related and rotational.

Thing is, when you open the bonnet, the heat escapes and it won't do it?
We've even had it on a ramp, drive going and someone under the thing. I could hear it but Chris under the car could not?

It's only in gear in the main, but has starting to do it just by revving it and holding that RPM sometimes..

I've changed the belt, tried the water pump, tried the alternator, swapped out the power steering pump but still nothing.

No air con.

Hold it at the RPM when it does it, and it’s like Eeeeeeeee sound.. like a bearings going or gone? clutch in or out.

I did think it may be the big cat vibrating, but it has a rotational noise with it.

Could it be the dizzy??... can't think of much inside the engine that would do this?

Anyone had this and solved it?

no, they are clear. I've even had the plenum top off to see if any of the stacks are lose.. but not that?... Its a strange one for sure?
It's a kind on ching, ching, ching, ching, ching sound.. so sounds to be somthing going round, but what. My bonnet stay does hit the manifould sometimes, and I could try this but sure its not. It does it every time and I can move this out the way... in fact, I'm sure I did remove it last year??..

Have you run it without the belt fitted?
Get it up to temp, remove the belt, run it for just a short time.

How about n/s engine mount failed and power steering pulley contacting underside of swirl pot neck. Look for shiny edge to pulley. Has happened to me and others in the past.

Are you sure it's not the engine pinking..?

All the symptoms described would fit, and with the bonnet up (car stationary) it would not be under load when you revved it so you wouldn't get it... Acceleration is obviously under load.

Some people say sounds like ball bearings, but I think it's more like a "tr-r-r-r-r-ring" sound, like the "ching" you said...

I hope not.. ive been trying to make it do it!

But I will check my timing for sure. Hot, under load would fit but its not a ping.

It does sound like a bearing to me, but running out of bearings to check?

Can't think of anything in the engine that would do it.... only other thoughts is the dissy. Ill have to take it out and have a look

Could it be a loose trumpet in the plenum. I had that and it had scored all the underside of the plenum.

If it only does it when hot, and under some load, then surely 5 mins on your local rolling road would have this nailed ?

I've checked them.. Look above.. It does sound something like that as its rpm replated and only when on load.. I'd guess they can sound similar when lose.. but no.

Soon as you open the bonnet it stops as I guess the heat goes. It is doing it a bit more now so may be worth a re-try....
