What is general opinion, of a the colour change on a Griffith 500SE, purely cosmetic - no bodywork damage.

Would it affect the cars re-sale value.

As long as it wasn’t mine!

There would always be a nagging doubt as to why.

What is the current colour of the one you have your eyes on?

Thoughts of colour were Aston Martin Le Mans Blue.

Are you going to keep the Griff ?

If so... go for it.
If not... it's a buyers market at the moment . So originality will be king in this instance .smile

Might be worth a look on the SE register to see if any other SE's have had a mid-life colour change. That might answer your question. I don't know as I haven't checked myself.

Hi Digger, Your car (No.54) is nice colour, I remember viewing the car in Brackley last year.

For me, the problem would be the Prussian Blue Blue and Portland Grey would not go with the Nightfire Red.

If the leather is in good enough condition it'll cost you peanuts to get it recoloured to suit nightfire red. Google furniture clinic on here and you'll see lots of people have done it

That's something to think about then.

Personally I think that ultimately the value of an SE will lie in its originality. All changes/upgrades I have made to mine are reversible.

If it's the car I'm thinking of then the problem you'll have is its already very top end, get it resprayed and it'll be well over £45k. So no matter whether anyone wants originality or not you'll always lose money on it, if it's the car for you though then go for it

Is it specifically an SE you want? If not get a nice 500 and spray it Aston Martin blue. Not only will it be the colour you like but it will have the better looking rear lights. biggrin

Hi Rich,

The car appeals to me because it nearly ticks all of the boxes - fully rebuilt Powers Performance top hat engine, MBE engine management, New Interior/Hood by D&C Trim, refurbished chassis due to the powder coat flaking, the only negative for me is the colour. But to respray it may prove to be a big No,No - when wanting to move it on!

If I could fine a pre 2000 griff 500, with all of the above in the desired colour or nearly then I would be happy.

Finding a nice Griff is proving difficult, unless anyone not using a car and thinking of selling it might consider moving it on.

I might be just an idiot though.

Personally I'd paint it whatever colour you like but I know people can be a bit sniffy about this. I didn't realise the TVR world was heading that way which seems a shame. Aston Martin people are known being rather annaly retentive about such things but I will be repainting my Aston in a non-original color next spring.

Looks like a good example, but I've had a lot of bad luck with red cars. So I tend to steer clear of that colour.
