Just removed heads from my 1992 4.3 Griff on the engine number doesn't say bv but has double valve springs fitted been ported , so I guess this was fitted after?

Nice.
A couple of years ago I got an inlet manifold gasket off Powers Performance with the bigger cutouts for ported heads.
I watched Dom use his home made press which probably was the same one used on your gasket nearly 3 decades ago. thumbup
Knobby would have done that work most likely wink

Only removing the heads will tell you if they are big valve or not .. the porting doesn't mean big valves, just that they are ported. Looks like waisted stems on the valves though ..
edited to add .. seen in the description you have removed the heads .. so take a pic of the valves smile

Hi, Dom has the engine build spec sheets for most of the RV8s, I got a copy of mine a few months ago, an interesting piece of the car’s history. Mine showed double valve springs, H214 cam etc but stated not BV! The sheet also has the signatures of the guys who worked on the engine

All the 4.3 heads were extensively ported and had double valve springs to work with the Kent H214 cam.

The Vitesse-spec std valves should have waisted stems also.

There should also be circular grooves around the combustion chambers for fire rings to bite into the originally specced copper head gaskets. Even if the heads have been skimmed once or twice the grooves would still be visible.

Incidentally, the copper gaskets were the same thickness as the modern multi-layer ones so the 4.3s are the only pre-serp engines where you can use the current spec head gaskets instesd of tin one without losing about 0.6 compression ratio.
