A pump which can be turned on a few seconds to build up oil pressure before starting the engine, Covering the cam axle in oil and minimizing wear during the engine startup! Has anyone here fitted one? Thoughts?

Not sure that there is such a thing.

Maybe the accusump has a manual release ..

These engines last a very long time - are you sure its really a problem that
needs to be solved.

Can't see how that would work the internals need to be rotated to coat fully?
If you are looking at pre coating the moving parts after a long lay up, just remove the fuel pump relay and turn the engine over on the starter to lubricate the moving parts

there was a post a couple of years ago where a copper pipe with holes in it had been put over the cam so you could oil this after a lay-up... drilled through the end of the casting and fitted with a bung when not used... always thought this might be a idea if developed. smile

My oil accumulator delivers a shot of oil, its similar to an accusump but came with the solenoid valve as standard. Ignition on valve opens ~ as pressure builds it's stored in the accumulator ~ if engine pressure drops with ignition on stored pressure delivers oil to engine (kind of like a reservoir) ~ when engine is turned off solenoid valve is closed storing pressurized oil in accu ~ when ignition switched on (much later) shot of oil is pumped into engine (1.5 litre) before starting ~ as soon as pressure builds accu is refilled.

However I think OP is thinking of speed6 style electric oiler, which pumps oil from dry sump oil tank into engine as a 'sticking plaster' for concerns over cam/follower issues. I'm not really sure that pumping thick cold oil from sump dribbling over top end of RV8 is of real benefit, warm thin oil spurting every nook & cranny seems more the norm?

Hmm, I haven't thought about an accumulator. That sounds very good! I think I'll drop my idea about an electric oilpump and get my hands on a good oil accumulator instead.

Raceproved in Sheffield do this for the speed six engine it builds up a low oil pressure in the engine and sprays the cams and followers before allowing engine to start
