After 3 Aston Martin V8 Vantages over the last 7 years, I have returned to the fold! I bought the car (a low mileage '98 500) from N Ireland dealer Hollybrook Sportscars (who gave fabulous service) and picked it up yesterday morning from southern Belgium. A 1000km drive down motorways to home (in southern France) wasn't the ideal first drive, but the car lapped it up, provided comfort, roughly 25mpg (CBA to work it out exactly, it's not what TVR ownership is about IMO) and massive grins through the tunnels in Lyon and leaving every toll station.

This is my 7th TVR, and second Griff. I really enjoyed driving and owning the V8V (which is a design icon to match the Griff for me), but there is something more "me" about the TVR. I don't know what that says about me, but it's a fact! It may be something to do with the fact that a Vixen was my first sports car, at age 19, so maybe it's now in my DNA.

Good to be back!

Love TVR.
I reckon the predecessor of the Griffith is this

I owned both as daily drivers separated by nearly 30 years but this

Is the nearest comparison .

Yesteryear Tiger , current Griffith. Get one while you can .

Stuff about Tigers
How odd you should mention the Tiger! I nearly bought one from the States, this one

However, I decided it would be just a bit too much of a classic to enjoy driving any time, any place, any where....

Is that with the stock 260 motor ? Muncie 4 speed ? The one I had was BRG and black interior . Great memories, it was also a daily driver because only the well off had more than one car . I think it had the measure of most of its contempories , TR6 , MGC & MGB . AH 3000 , Marcos , TVR ( excluding the V8) etc etc . Outgunned by the E-Type and no match for an Élan under most circumstances.

It started life with a 260, but now has a 302. It belongs to a friend of a friend, and is still for sale AFAIK.

I agree with you the V8V - absolutely stunning car which I would love to own one day. cloud9

I haven't driven one but I was a but disappointed when I was taken out in one. It didn't have the same savage acceleration and even maybe lacked the sense of occasion compared to the Griff. I think it doesn't help that the Griff feels much faster than it actually is.

How did you find owning a V8V vs the Griff?

More expensive!! Obviously, it was going to cost more to run a V8V than a Griff (or the T350 that I had before the first V8V), and I expected that. The biggest difference in the driving was the weight of the Aston. However, once I got used to it, the car proved to be very chuckable, but I needed to very aware with the TC off, when the handling wasn't that dissimilar to the Griff. In fact, I came to think of the V8V as an up-market, more sophisticated TVR (maybe the 'sophisticated' bit explains why I feel more at home in the Griff!).

I know what you mean about the grunt of the 4.3 V8V, which needs to have its neck wrung to get the best out of it. The 4.8 is much more like the Griff as it pulls from almost any revs and the sound, top down, is just as intoxicating. I know I'll miss the Aston, but I have no regrets about changing to the Griff, which is so much more 'wieldy' on the roads around here.
