Anyone want to buy a rad with a leak
My Aaron Radiator arrives tomorrow. Pity you had problems because I rang straight through, spoke to Gavin, very helpful...! I went to Aaron because I had read a complimentary article on them in one of the car mags. The price is not bad either. So new radtec ordered and should arrive tomorrow ,

With regard to repairing ali rads, Gavin said he couldn't but perhaps he would say that wouldn't he....!
Anyway I will report back on quality, ability to keep the Griff cool etc. As you see on my other thread, having found that my head gasket/liner is OK I am going to completely overhaul the cooling system including:
new rad
new ACT silicon pipes
new ACT stainless steel pipes
new thermostat
new temperature sender
new pressure cap to the expansion tank
I am going to spend a load of time bleeding the little bleeder to get rid of those poxy bubbles. I already have my screw on funnel to the swirl pot but I am going to jack up the front of the car as well as lift the expansion tank to above everything else to see if that does the job.
While I am at it I am going to replace the air inlet hose with:

and try replacing the exhaust U clamp with this:

I will let you know how I get on.
Anybody want to buy/have for free a second leaky rad - seriously if anybody has a use for it, it seems a pity to just throw it away......? Pete
I am no expert on this but I suspect that on a brass radiator you can carry out solder repairs whereas on an aluminium radiator you can only weld and the fins and tubes are too delicate to weld or at least it may be very hard to weld them without doing more damage. I've seen on the internet you can use an epoxy resin repair for aluminium raditors but, too be honest, I'm not sure I would trust it.... Pete
To be fair, I don't recall ever seeing one with the 90degree top hose connection before... Whereas early chims really needed the 90degree bottom hose connector, I think later ones had a bit more clearance that allowed a straight connector.
I'd accept the new one, but question the old one's design ~ there are various foibles between fitting Chim & Griff rads (chims tight at the bottom & Griffs fouling the standard induction pipe at the top) which may have confused rad makers ~ not helped by some of these gross overstatements of 'only one kind & all the same land rovers'???
BTW: I've never seen a TVR rad with a vent hose off the rad which all the LR rads have IIRC, without even touching on those hose angles. No wonder small volume rad makers get confused, the TVR community is not all that precise AFIK
