That's really sad.....I do hope everyone was ok.
What's also very worrying is how on earth that can go 'unrecorded' ? There is something very wrong with the HPI system if a car that is so badly damaged it needs a full chassis replacement can slip through the net. I can understand it for minor damaged financial 'write offs' but looking at the pictures on Deans site...that's ridiculous.

Just to clarify,
The guy driving the Griff walked away shaken but fine, but he was not the owner. Other than that, the owner (at the time) doesn't want any further information posted regarding what happened as the issue is not yet resolved.

paying for it on the damaged market.... and then passing on to the second hand market..... would you pay £5k for a £300 part.. (ok in our head that part is £150... but if you cant get one without buying a car )....... not sticking up for practise, but a the end of the day its a businessAnd yes, daft price for a car so badly damaged.
But Why do nearly all smashed Griffs / TVRs end up in just 2 Salvage yards ?
Presumably the Ins companys once they have written a car off are just offering TVRs to just 2 salvage cos ?
God forbid, if ever any of mine were damaged / written off it would be recovered straight away from the scene to my / safe premises and i would be keeping the salvage.
And Just no way would it BE RECOVERED BY THE ROAD SIDE By the old bills appointed Cowboy recovery agent as i have bitterly learnt to my huge cost as happened to my bike which was subsequently smelted down.........

They simply go up for public auction like this one hbc, and the highest bidder wins.It seems there are only a couple of salvage dealers that want to compete seriously for the business?
One may suppose that they pay a small premium to secure the vehicles, and that is part of the reason they can be so expensive.
A pal and I would like to buy a fixer upper Damaged / resto project Griff, but wonder what damaged / hidden horrors lie waiting to be uncovered in that car......Even @ an un recorded ( apart from to all us Griff addicts on here ) 5 grand and they throw in a secondhand chassis in that price ( that will surely need blasting / outriggers and more ) that car is going to cost £ plenty plenty to repair properly.
Very curious as to how it ended up damaged the way it has, ( breaking hard and it's gone under the rear / front of another car perhaps ? )
Grafting another front end to that shell, isn't gonna be cheap ( if it's done properly by a specialist ) then add the cost of front wishbones, (likely rears too ) ball joints, uprights, shocks, another steering rack, engine mounts, bushes, radiator, fluids, etc etc then a full repaint, ( couldn't live with that color ) and then some trim work, that dash would have to be thrown over the nearest hedge for starters, the costs are going to be huge. That's assuming that the Engine, Gear Box and Diff havnt been damaged in the impact.....
Guessing it could possibly end up in Germany, France, Holland etc where they seem to be making lots more £ than here.
