Seeing the spent the last 10 minutes polishing my knob fnar fnar laugh thread over on the Chim forum got me thinking about something I've never quite got to the bottom of.

Do the early cars with LT77 boxes have a gate image on the top ?
Not something you've stuck on later - I know I could do that if I wanted to, but what was originally there?
Mine has a recess like there should be something there but its never had anything, am I missing something?

Hi Ian, I am not sure myself as my 430 Precat came with a replacement Momo aluminium one with no gate on! I have subsequently replaced it in recent months with another aluminium one from someone who made a batch with the LT77 gate pattern on. I quite like it, even though I know where the gears are. Regards, Pete

I have just looked in the Owners handbook ( Leather Filofax thingy). Page 6 and 11 show a Standard Alloy gear knob with no markings. Page 16 shows the Gear leaver configuration with reverse top left. smile

I never thought of looking in the handbook Brian.
I'll have a look at that tonight.

Interested in the insert though Black and Green. Any chance of a photo?

I'm offshore for another 10 days, but I'll get a photo when I get back - unless anyone else can help you in the meantime.

Hi, my precat had a black on clear label stuck on the top disc when bought in 1999, this was slightly damaged so I rang the factory to see if they were available and was given the part number U0458 Gear Change Label which I ordered, was 1.98 + VAT back in the day, still got the invoice in my file. Never seen them available since though.

My knob was similar. It had a flat on top though to accommodate a sticker though. Maybe it had one when it left t'factory?

Same as a mate of mine, but his Knob is sans disk,I bought him a Leven Knob with the imprint on it for Christmas, now he's as happy as a dog with two...I mean a griff owner with two knobs...

yep can confirm that the original precats had a sticker/disk on top of the knob..... mine still has it, albeit almost unreadable now..... all boxed up nice and safe, as it was wrong configuration for my T5 box

So, the little recess in the top is supposed to have a gate picture.
Is it a clear back with black image/writing or coloured in any way?
Is the sticker flat or does it have any kind of profile

Thanks guys
