Engine stalls after starting?
Discussion
Started my Griff for the first time in a couple of weeks this morning, started OK and gently eased on some throttle to around 1200rpm then backed off the throttle and the engine revs dropped off and continued to do so until 0 rpm. Started the engine again and same thing happened. Next start I revved the engine a couple of times up to around 4000rpm took my foot of the throttle and the revs dropped and settled at 900rpm. Went for a drive with no further problems.
Could this be the dreaded stepper motor or maybe something else?

That sound like the characteristics of a reset ECU. If you reset the ECU or have a totally flat battery the ECU can/does 'forget' the idle setting of the Stepper and you need to rev and hold the accelerator till it settles down.
Or perhaps more simply maybe the stepper was stuck from lack of use.

The stepper should wind fully open, as you turn the ignition OFF (thats the buzz you hear) to allow full airflow next restart. On starting the cold engine, it will start with a raised idle, then drop down in a couple of stages untill a good idle is established. If you are not getting the inital high idle, then the stepper motor is not opening as it should. I could simply be mucky, or possibly not connected- but listen for that Buzz on turning the ignition off.
