In the Cool 500
Discussion
Interesting they say the 500 is the one to have.
Some of us believe it is the 4.3BV because there is nothing in it in terms of performance and we all agree the pre-cats make the best noise.
Maybe back then the improved build quality and girlie pack (PAS & Aircon) swayed opinion.
Time will tell I guess.

............shhhhh I don't know if you have noticed but for some reason it's always the 4.3 owners who seem to think that

Soon these 500-boys all want a 430BV !
The best chance to see a 500 is in the rear view mirror (thats were they usually are.......)

Let's hope Poxon has some thick-cut steak fries (500) instead of some shoestring fries (4.3)....

I might have guessed the loud Scott would get involved, your poor Griff not only has 700ml of capacity missing it also has crap wheels!
- the chimp with a hat comment did make me chuckle though.Blimey, handbags at dawn from the girls!
No wonder you need the extra 700cc if you've been stuffing steak and fat fries down your neck
The pre-cats are acknowledged to sound better. Come on guys its about time you owned up to this. No matter what you tinker with a 500 just doesn't sound as good as a pre-cat.
I will submit to there being improvements in the cars as they got older. The heater being a prime example.
But that's out of the box, and these days we have enough knowledge about the early car foibles that with some fettling they can be made as good.
Put it this way.
I wouldn't swap my pre-cat for your 500. Not even a good one like "More Chips Please" MPoxon has.
Its a shame they can't redo the test now, with a properly finished but standard 4.3 against a properly sorted but standard 500. There would be sod all between them I bet. Other than the noise. And we can fix dodgy build stuff, but you can't fix the noise.
All IMHO of course.

Ha, ha. I mean all 500s and 430s lag behind. No wonder you need the extra 700cc if you've been stuffing steak and fat fries down your neck

All IMHO of course.
Notice I didn't say all griefs 'cause there are a few LSs that are frankly..........cheating

Easy now girls, we are all supposed to be mates aren't we, shouldn't we stop scratching each others eyes out and agree that all Griffs are fantastic (especially the 500s (oops!))......?Some of us believe it is the 4.3BV because there is nothing in it in terms of performance and we all agree the pre-cats make the best noise.

Neither of my 500s have got the girly pack, didn't like the PAS, felt I lost all feeling of the road and the non-PAS is good for the shoulder muscles and saves me going to the gym. Air-con, can't understand it as the times I've driven the Griff with the roof up I can count on the fingers of one hand.
Incidentally, might be interested in the Scooby PAS for my rebuild, anyone got first hand experience? Pete

What's a decent original 4.3 putting out on crazy horses Ian? I wouldn't swap my pre-cat for your 500. Not even a good one like "More Chips Please" MPoxon has.
