Catalytic converters
Discussion
Looking for any tips regrading the best place fit a catalytic converter in my exhaust. See here for a pic
I don't really want to hack my after market Y price which came with the car when I bought it...however there isn't a great deal of room down there. The best solution I can think of if the fit a long, narrow cat just after where the Y price joints the exhaust pipe.
Would this work and given its location which is a fair way away from the engine, would the cat get hot enough to work?

I've thought about this too. What about putting them where the silencer normally resides and clamping them on? Yould could actually fit a couple of Cherrybomb silencers on the individual pipes after the standard silencer/ cats if you wanted to.
Would the cats get hot enough in this location to work properly? It would be less agro than changing the Y piece.

I used a classic shape Impreza cat in my Griff in exactly the place you describe - just after the Y piece - in order to pass an MOT test a couple of years ago. It worked, but the cat itself was on the small side so it limited power somewhat. The other small issue was that it would only fit in place if I removed the heat shields from the cat, so it burned the paint off part of the chassis.
