Can you lift from the front cross member with an engine crane?

The cross member is above the steering rack - or will it put too much stress?

Hi , can you explain more please on what you are doing ? The front x member ? Are you lifting the engine out or wanting to lift the car from the front x member ? You can heck the car from the front x member ( I have done this several times and it is quite strong )? If you were lifting from it I would suggest a sling at each end ?

Sorry for my lack of clarity

I am not taking the engine out - I want to lift the front up and place on axle stands

Lifting from the cross member seems a sensible solution - I use to do this with my Caterham however appreciate it was lighter

Similar here, made little wooden ramps, 2.5" high, drive on (they have a stop) and lift under longitudinal chassis beam with a jack, pref near an upright, then place stand(s). The procedure is similar at the rear

Do see your point for lifting the front of the car by crane, but what about the rear ?
