Idle on the car, when slowing down at, for instances traffic lights, remains at 2K rpm for some seconds.

Nothing wrong with the throttle cable, moves freely, throttle mechanism has two springs on it.

Suspect the butterfly plate is only slowly returning to its closed position (should add it is a standard set up...)

What are the does and don'ts when dismantling the throttle assembly/body and what is the best way to clean it ? (carb clean ?)

Comments highly appreciated

Could be the stepper, I replaced mine recently and it's doing the same thing ever since until it's up to full temp. A quick blip and it settles down. I've not had the time to investigate further...

Blipping the loud pedal does not help, revs go up and settle to 2 K then go down to 1K only........

The stepper motor is clean (gets done every so often)

Thanks for the suggestion, anyway !

I have the same problem, my speedo also packs up for a few seconds then jumps back into life again. I was wondering if these two faults could be related in any way. Comments welcome.

Could be road speed sensor not telling the car it's at rest, if idle stays high when stopping, then reduces once stood still.
Coolant temp sensor being out-of-spec can mess things up as well - from memory (not what it used to be) smile

Now that is an interesting point ! I did not glance at the speedo, as I was busy looking at the rev/c

(men can only do one thing at a time, but unlike the other sex they do it well....biggrin )

Last year, when in hot weather, the speedo transducer has cut out, so you might well be right !

cheers !

Hi Frank, I have been through all of the above some 2 to 3 years ago. I went through the cleaning of stepper motor etc, but to no avail the dreaded 2K rev's at idle. So I replaced the stepper with a new quality item and the problem all but disappeared, though every now and again it held for a few seconds at about 1500. So I went through all the intake system and hoses and found the horrid ribbed large TVR flexible intake to the AFM had holes in it, replaced that with nice smooth bore silicon and the elbow that goes from other side of AFM to plenum, then checked and tightened all clips in the air feed through to stepper. Voila, problem solved, albeit occasionally hanging on to to 1500 for no apparent reason (always when hot).

To conclude this saga I finally totally cured the occasional 1500 hang on and low speed shunting (30 mph in 4th) by installing the excellent updated (albeit for the 430) ECU Eprom program from SteveSprint. I did like playing with the programs (bought another ECU from a Land Rover barker). Anyway that was last Autumn, the car runs so well now and is more pleasurable to drive.

Hope that's been of some assistance? All the best, Pete

Hi Pete,

The car is indeed a 430, it has a Limora 123 ignition (bought the car in Germany) but still on the 14CUX and she does not suffer from shunting at all.......

When I bought her she had this poxy intake hoses, and a 'turbo' whistle.......the hoses (both straight and elbow) have been changed for smooth bore silicon. After installation the whistle went for a bit, but is now back (!?)

I will now yank the whole lot off again to check if all is coupled up 'leakless', but i would like to take of the plenum and the throttle set up as well, to clean and check, so any pointers as to how/what would be great !
