An all year round car?
Discussion
I see a lot of talk about getting the cars out for the sun, but do many of you use your cars all year round? The dealership I was at on Saturday said that all TVRs leak but they are fine if living in the garage and not to worry if a bit of water gets in. I'm not keen on getting a car that I use for just a few months per year so interested to know how owners currently use them. For example, with a plastic roof and rear window, are the cars particularly cold during the winter compared to other (non TVR cars)? Do you leave them out in the rain for a day or just decide that if it is raining, you'll leave the car in the garage and use a different form of transport?
If the roof is in good condition and regularly treated with a water proofed, such as Fabsil, it shouldn't leak. There are known water ingress areas that are not roof related, but these are easily identified and remedied if they haven't already been fixed already.
Mine is garaged now, but it previously lived outside for 2.5 years, in all weathers, and used as my daily drive at the time. Rain would certainly not stop me or put me off driving in the rain, oddly I actually enjoy driving in the rain but take it easy near standing water. As for the winter, yes it will be chilly in the car when you first get in it on a winter's morning, but they warm up pretty quickly.

Why not in winter? Lots of reasons including
protect chassis
keep mileage down.........
takes ages to warm up and clear windscreen
You cant use all the performance in winter (or I cant anyway)
totally crap in snow and ice
Might be better in a town in winter but I live in the middle of nowhere.
IMO best arrangement is a Griff for Apr-Oct and another car for the 6 winter months.

I do not accept that all TVRs leak, mine lives outside with no cover and does not leak. As long as all the seals are in good order, the roof is waterproofed every couple of years there is no reason for it leak.
With regards to using it all year round, it depends what you actually mean by that. I use mine all year round but I do have another car to commute with. I would not want to have the Griff as my only car as I wouldn't want to be scraping ice off of it or driving in the snow. I am enjoy taking it out for a drive to winter meets / events though and they are fine in the rain as long as you treat it with respect, just avoid standing water.

Pretty much this. We have other cars, I just wanted to know why some people only tend to use the TVRs in good weather as I see that as a bit of a waste.Willtl said:

Hi Wilti and welcome. I use my Griff from end March to end December. It is garaged and I take it off the road (SORN) Jan to late March (MOT beginning April). That is my choice. I am fortunate to have other vehicles to use on a daily basis so the Griff is used only when I want to (nice days, trips away, weekends etc). Personally I do not see the fun in using it if its pouring with rain, snow, icy or the dreaded salt is on the roads. The three months it's off the road are my maintenance and work to be carried out times. This allows me to comfortably service (if required), carry out upgrades etc (this Winter did the brakes) and plan improvements (like my dashboard and earlier exhaust trays etc). It is a personal decision to not use it during the worst of the winter months, as I do not have to. I believe the Griff can be brought around to be reliable, leak free and safe, whatever decision you make just enjoy it, that's what they are for. All the best, Petemk1fan said:
If you have a spare £20k you don't need and can send it over....As you're looking for a car in concourse winning condition you're going to either find a rube who doesn't value their car or adjust your financial expectations.
That said the green 30k chim looks good too. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
