Hi,

I know this has been discussed in the past but still seeking your advice. I own a Griffith 500 (97) and even though the car is fast I feel the engine is not really wild. I have removed the precats - sleeved 1/3 of the silencer but would like more sound and throttle response. I would prefer to keep the main cat due to MOT every year and for the sake of the environment. I am wondering how much decating the car really brings - does it react quicker and does it feel more alive ? - else I will simply sleeve more of the silencer - would you recommend sleeving only 4/5 or the complete silencer.

Cheers

Dan

Hi Dan, this thread is a bit old but it covers the options...

Not sure you'll get what you're after without some extra work on mapping though? Be careful mate, you are setting off down a very slippery slope!

if you want the engine to breathe and be more responsive then decating is the only way to go.

Mine is standard with pre cats out and the clive Y fitted. revs more freely, sounds as it should. takes 5 mins to put the cat on for the mot, and 5 mins to swap back when cooled down. Plenty of mot stations will pass a decated car for a few £££ mine use the previous mot car to do the emission test before backing it out of the garage (so it gets tested twice lol).

Thanks for the feedback - it seems decat is the way to go. How can I get hold of a Clive Y-piece - would anyone have one for sale ?

Cheers,

Dan

Contact Clive F via PM on here or Facebook.

Alternatively, ebay.

ACT also do a replacement Y piece. Perfomance wise, I'm not sure if there's any difference between the Clive F and the ACT. Looks wise, if the Clive F is Cindy Crawford at the height of her modeling career then the ACT is the frothy bit that collects around the edges of the mouth on a 100 year old with no teeth.

Ask Clive - he's 3 posts up. Or you can get him on his facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/clivefppa

Which is probably easier than the antiquated pistonheads messaging system.

I've got one of his decat y pieces - can't comment on performance improvement as I swapped the engine management out at the same time but when you see what you're taking out... I can believe it makes a difference.

It is worth sorting out the induction too. The air intake and plenum is really restricted as standard.

Decat.

Had sleeved with cat, sounded good. Sleeved with decat way too loud. Decat with standard silencer, pretty good, still loud, but less agricultural. I'm going to try semi-sleeved/ cherry bomb style with decat next time.

im fernhurst "sports" backbox (Sleeved )and full decat.
it sounds epic... in addition i have the stepper motor disconnected and run on 95 ron.
these things together have made the car just amazing.
its personal preference but personally i love, crackly lopey cam sounding v8s that crack on upshifts and spit flame on overrun !
