I'm thinking of buying a griff for a full rebuild by RT Racing (only 30 mins from me). I almost bought a 99T reg griff 500 from tvrglen last year that had been crashed but wasnt a cat d for £8000 ish.

No rush to buy as I'll be looking at a long term project but ideally I want it fully rebuilt, retrimmed, painted and a V8 dev 5.4 or similar. For a lifetime keeper.

Am I right in buying the cheapest one I can find due to wanting to overhaul it? Any advice much appreciated.

Ps. I'm not new to TVR. I had 2 x 400SE about 10 years ago. But without a garage, they were my daily drives and no money to fix them back then. Not ideal! Want to do it right this time!

Good plan, if I were to buy another TVR I would be tempted with this route so I could build a car completely to my spec. If I were to build a Griff it would probably be this spec:

New Chassis - either RT racing or if I was feeling flush sport motive Evo chassis.
Ohlin suspension
JE 5.2 engine with individual throttle bodies
Clive Ford manifolds
MBE ECU from TVR Power
Carl Baker Meta Alarm
Colour - pearlesant yellow - Surface and Design
Interiror black with yellow stitching and the yellow dials on a traditional wooden dash - DC Trim
Cerbera seats

Haha,
It's your fault all this Mr Poxon! It was your griff growl vids that got me back on this! Especially your car and the 540 firespitter!

Nice spec by the way. Different colour scheme to me but I'd love to see them side by side.

From the research I've done my wish list is

- Deep metallic green with buiscut and dark green leather, matching painted green dash and wood steering wheel like yours mr P, possibly tamora seats
-17+18" Cerbera RL7s
- Coil Overs
- new rt chassis
- gear box rebuild or upgrade
- 5.4 v8d with loud exhaust (I know it's totally chav, but it'll only do 2000 miles a year, so I want the volume up to 11)
- radio delete
- air con delete
- Headlight upgrade
- full stainless exhaust

And a partridge in a pear tree. Best get saving!

LOL sorry!

Paul Jacksons's Griff is an absolute monster, that has the V8D 5.4 and straight through exhaust. It actually is not too horrific on sound, a V8 always sounds good with straight through pipes. I have been fortunate enough to drive that car and the performance is awesome, that combined with the noise and fire coming out of the back on the overrun what a machine!

Best interior for a green car has to be RichB his Griff is stunning and the interior is perfectly speced:

Just make sure you do your research before you buy a wreck, yes you will end up brand new car to your spec but it won't be cheap. You may be better off waiting for one to come up which you like the spec and the someone else has already poured loads of money in to.

If you get bored or need more inspiration there are loads more TVR vids on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU3EYyR8B7DpZI-Z6...

Thanks for those words Matt.

I am thinking of making it a bit quieter, maybe a 'cherry bomb' type silencer if anyones's got one spare....

pjac67 Mpoxon,

You guys have hit the nail on the head with your Griffs. Much respect. I love the interior on that overhead shot. Would love to see some more pics. I agree, maybe be patent and wait until one that has been done comes up on PH. No rush I don't really want to be driving it this year anyway.

Budget would have to be about £40k to do it nicely and you can get a mega griff for £40k in the classifieds I bet...

£25k should buy you a really nice Griff with hopefully most of the stuff done to it you want.... if you are prepared to wait for the right one. You could spend the remaining £15k on a full respray and retrim to your spec and adding those last few bits to the wishlist.

My advice would be to get a nice and just drive it for a year, then work out what it is that you want from it and invest the money in those areas. I seem to be enjoying more track days no so I am starting down the track mods route, I would never have though when I first bought the car I would have a baffled sump, 4pot brakes fitted and be thinking about a possible roll bar and harnesses.

Paul, you are more than welcome my friend. I do really rate you Griff it is always stood out amongst the crowd for me both under Uncle Fester's custody and your own. I am not sure about the cherry bombs Paul, I am not sure it would be right on that car, it has always been a shouty one! It isn't actually very nice when you are in it, just pity the poor sods who have to follow behind. I have to have mine moderately quiet to get through the noise regs at trackdays but I would have mine straight through in a heartbeat if not. I know other people moan about straight through being too loud but do you care when you have that noise on acceleration and then the barrage artillery fire on the overrun - I wouldn't smile

This one caught my eye at the weekend. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...

No connection or knowledge of the car but looks a good one.

Surely that car is £25k all day long. If that epic spec Griff is only £17k then mine must be worth about £7.50!

Think I'd better shut up about £40k and look at 15+5. Happy days smile

The black one looks great, but was looking at spending £10 now and the rest next year. I'm just going to join the tvrcc. Go to some meets, and when someone like you guys sell one of your nice sorted ones, I'll be sniffing about to take advantage!
