Hi Chaps.

I have a Griff 400 on a 92J plate.

Over the last week I have heard a creaking/ grinding sound from the region of the gear stick/console area. The sound is a bit like when a gear isn’t quite engaged and when you start to let the clutch out the gearbox gives out a groaning sound.

It happens:

1) in first gear when pulling away

2) in second and third gears when easing off the throttle/accelerator

Any ideas please so that I can try and point my garage in the right direction? It hasn’t been a good year what with replacement shocks and springs (big improvement on the handling) and new ignition components so I am praying for an economic fix.

Help!
Shaun

Thank you Gents. I will double check but I think that kicking in the clutch stops the noise. Just checked the Bible and replacing the release bearing is a gearbox out job. Sounds expensive!

I'll get in touch with you 5.0 litre to borrow your ears if it doesn't progress my issue.

I had a starter motor failure causing the starter gear to rub against the flywheel gear.... but that was a noise in all gears.
