I’ve had some play and inconsistent feel in the steering of my (non PAS) 500 for a while now, and during MOT yesterday we found some play in the joint between the steering rack and the right hand track rod.

MOT chap reckoned it might be serviceable with shims in some way but we didn’t take the boot off to look; is this correct or is time for a new rack? The UJs and track rod ends look fine, and the car has done about 60k.

Would this fix it?

Oooh- yes, I assume that would fix it and save me £380... thanks! I’ll measure mine up but presumably that will fit fine.

Has anyone ever fitted one - is it doable with the rack in place, or is it a really high torque value? Looks like a couple of flats for a big spanner -don’t want it unwinding!

Easy enough in place. Mine were threadlocked, not sure if some models have a different arrangement

Thread resurrection time....

I ordered some of the above track rods a few months back and they’ve sat on the bench waiting for me to have some garage time until this weekend.

I’ve taken the rack out as I couldn’t get them undone in situ; it also means I can have a good look at all the other joints in the system too.

However the track rods I have appear to be different from those I ordered or any I can see on the usual TVR sites

Does anyone know what sort these are?

Thanks
