Now the car is fresh back from TVR101 with its new walnut dash (wasn't a fan of the turned stainless one) I think the car is crying out for a wooden wheel.

I think it will be a bit more style over substance sort of thing as the car has no power steering and it will probably be easier to hoik the wheel over when parking with the nice grippy leather than shiny slim wood.

I may have to get some Alan Partridge string back gloves for the extra purchase.

Anyway...where do we stand regards boss change and PCD?...what other factors do I need to take into account and/or buy in addition to the wheel?...anyone done this then regretted it and reverted?

I've just taken this off my car to swap it for a black leather wheel.
This one needs a new home.

I did drop Moto-Lita a quick email querying compatibility of this for the TVR

They did reply...but its a bit complicated!

"Thank you for your enquiry. We do need more information from the steering column, please could you remove the wheel and send in photos of the steering column. Does it have splines or a hexagonal fitting? If splines, we need the number of splines, the diameter of the splines and length of taper (if any)."

Is it just these 6 bolts that hold the wheel in place?...

So any similar wheel that has that bolt pattern will fit?

In the photo from Three D Muck the bolt pattern is the same as on my Personal Grinta....but when you look at the bolt pattern on the pic from Harvy 500 or Adrain@ it is different.

When you remove the standard wheel do you see other bolt holes on the boss for alternative fitting?

Check the bolt holes...12 o'clock, straight ahead or you are going to have to play ...I have changed numerous wheel and have 8 or nine laying around, the wooden one in my picture is in my 280DH with TVR SEAC 4 dial dash interior, which matches perfectly with the dash (as I said the silly centre had to go). OK have opted for a Nardi copy straight outa Guangdong province....for £75 its got to be worth a punt.

Mota-lita made it all very complicate and it was going past £400+

Well it arrived this morning, doesn't look or feel too bad actually! better than I thought.

Will have a go tomorrow at replacing the Personal with this, hopefully its just the six screws holding it on?...hex or allen key?

Ahhhh....well pointless change?....

It was just bugging me that I had a fantastic English car and had shoved in a cheap Chinese steering wheel...which actually I thought looked ok.

https://www.moto-lita.co.uk/pages/heritage

The more I read about Moto-Lita with mentions of Sterling Moss, Aston Martin, Shelby Mustang etc etc...the more I thought one of these wheels would be more fitting...

Long story short, it arrived and is a true work of art, I went for the thick rim, with stained wood which was a closer match to the walnut dash. It defaults to brass rivets bit I opted for silver.

I had to buy an adapter to make it fit instead of changing the entire boss, but once fitted it popped on a treat.

My only decision left now is horn type!...black plastic at £20 or the full Monty stainless steel at about £100 more?...

I actually think the cheaper plastic one looks ok!...let me know your thoughts!

Much as though I’m not a fan of wooden dashboards and wheels I have always really liked mota-lita wheels and this one looks great. Stainless middle for the win..

it blends in colour wise with the dash much better than the other one.

That would have made my teeth itch every time I got in the car.

Yes I may stick with the chrome billet horn, its all quite shiny at the moment but apparently blends down with oxidization to make it more of a match for the other metal bits.

The moto lita one matches the veneer on the dash more closely than the other one but im not a fan of the metal spots on the ML. Makes the wheel look like its for a decades older car. Your choice but I would rather have a more modern looking wheel in the right veneer.

Yes see your point, but its funny in the back of my mind when I drive the Griff it does feel like a car much older than it actually is!...being noisy and not terribly well put together and not having power steering/ABS/DSC/airbags/crumple zones etc etc...and I really like that feeling...I wish it had window winders and no central locking button!...ideally I'd be driving a pre-war Bentley Blower, but alas can't afford it so this fun will do for now.

Did anyone say wire wheels?

Yes they do of course have all the characteristics of a much older car but I was not referring to that. I was referring to the style of the interior and that looks very much from the right time period so its like having a 60s wheel in a 90s car. It is your car of course so your choice, I would prefer the earlier wheel but with either of them what would really boil me would be the veneer not matching. I had a Jag in the past brand new and the gearknob didnt match the dashboard and I made them change it. The brochure went on about mirrored book matched veneers etc and there it was like a different wood. the dealer thought I was nuts hehe
