I’m looking into fitting an auxiliary power socket for a satnav somewhere near the centre of the car as opposed to having a lead draped across the dash towards the door socket. I’ve had a look but there isn’t anywhere obvious to put one that would look decent. Any suggestions other than putting one in the dash?

I connected a fused fly lead directly to the battery which tucks under the edge of the passenger carpet along the centre tunnel when not in use.

Originally for ease of car battery charging, I also use it for GPS, phones etc.

I modded my devices to use model aircraft XT60 connectors (search ebay), cos they're a nice robust insulated connector and much neater than a cigar lighter plug. You can get all sorts of adaptors, even an XT60 to USB connector for less than a fiver.

Another popular way of doing it is from the battery up to the glove box and have a socket in there.

Any competent auto electrician ought to be able to find a permanent live and earth somewhere under the dash and install you a USB socket or two.

You just need a suitable bracket with the right sized hole in it.

That's the first one I found by searching on Ebay

2 x 12volt and a USB, held in place, in true TVR style, by Velcro smile

Wiggly line is some carpet edging, not the wire coming to it!

I fitted an auxiliary 12volt socket in place of the original instrument light switch:

This sounds like a good idea, I also like to have the dash lights on, not that I drive in the dark very often!!

Spot on use of an utterly useless button. Wish I had thought of that.

I have a USB socket in the radio. It powers the sat nav no bother.

Not sure on the under-dash differences between the Griff and the Chim, but here's where I mounted one in my Chim, out of sight.

Why not mount the sat nav on the right hand side of the windscreen instead? All leads stay close to the door then.

It doesn't have to be in the middle, unless you feel it would affect your view.

That's where I put mine in the TVR - bottom right corner of the screen. But like shown above, my radio has a USB socket that charges my phone.
Tomorrow I have to go somewhere new in the car, so will try running the satnav off the radio USB socket

Of course I didn't know I was speeding officer, I switched off all my dashboard lights because I like it nice and dark in the cabin.

Of course I didn’t know I was speeding officer. All the dash lights failed half an hour ago, here, have a look. Bloody TVR electrics.....
