Hi All

My Griff 500 is having a service and MOT and just noticed the age of the tyres. I only got it in August and checked the tread depth but didn't check the age. Needless to say they are WAY over 10 years old so need changing.

I can find Toyo Proxes in 245/45 r16 W for the rears.

But I can't find anything more than V rated in 225/50 r15 for the fronts. I have zero intention of exceeding 149mph, but the manual says the (old) Z rating of above 149mph only to be fitted.

What's everyone else doing at the min as I assume finding a pair of 16" Estoril's is going to be a mission.

Thanks Karl.

Several threads have been raised about this over the years. The consensus is that the insurance would still be OK with V rated tyres because that is all there is and you have used the highest speed rating available. After all, it's the reason the factory went from 225/55 x 16 to 245 / 50 x 16 on the rear. frown

Informing your insurance company may be best to alleviate any worry, as to performance, they'll be fine. Z rated tyres haven't existed for many years, now W and Y as you've found.

A bit late, but as above. I asked my ins. co. to email to confirm they were happy, which they did.

Thanks All

I managed to find a pair of 16” rear Estoril’s. Which now have 225/45r16 93 W rubber on. A lot more choice in 16s.
