Urgent advise on 28yr old defender 90

New to this forum

Would appreciate urgent advise,looking at buying friends 3.9 litre v8 Auto

Understand all the usual things to look/worry about,but is there any issues with the auto box against a manual

Quick replays would be appreciated,my profile shows I own a TVR 5 litre Rover engine so don't be surprised

As far as I am aware they didn't do a v8 with auto box, so I guess it's a conversion so what box was used if it was a Range Rover box they are good boxes depends onjowwell the conversion Was done

50th anniversary and Nas spec were v8 Autos....

No real issues but I wouldnt like an auto for mud plugging.....

It WILL drink though......

If it's a genuine 50th anniversary model, then snap it up.

If it's a home brew special, I'm not sure I would bother.

The only Defender Auto was the 50th Anniversary and as mentioned previously, if it is... Snap it up.

I wouldn't have any issues mud-plugging in an auto... I'd prefer it as you actually get more control with the auto. The only time you notice a difference is on very steep descents as you don't get as much engine-brakeing as you do with a diesel-manual.

Or was it ever a military vehicle?

Take a note of the VIN serial number.
If you break the code used in that number it can give you a lot of information,
Year of manufacture, plus other detail

My memory of those is that they were built about 18 years ago, and the production run was fifty only, expect to see a plate recording the fact that it was a special edition, and they had a lot of special aluminium protection plates on the wings. I remember reading the brochure at the time

50th had rollcage and was only available in that bluey green colour too.

NAS were softtops if my memory serves me right.

If it's a 50th, I say go for it. They only made 385. The only factory V8 auto ever produced. Mine has been great, had it over 2 years now.
