Range Rover (2016 vogue) developed an interesting new fault today.

Half way round a bend the power steering and brake servo failed.

Makes a change from the more run of the mill electrical gremlins it suffers from.

Any ideas as to what may have caused it?

Cheers

Sounds like servo vacuum hose failed. there was a recall on an earlier model year as it was routed next to the aux drive pulley and chafing caused it to fail. could have worked loose or not been fittec properly.

Sorry should have said, I switched it off and back on and fault disappeared. I am assuming it is electrical. The car has a number of ongoing electrical faults

if a reboot cured it then it sounds software related, I'd ask your dealer if there is an updated sw build on the service bulletins for the car and reflash it. if there isn't get them to pull the diagnostic error logs and send them to JLR for investigation, and request that JLR confirm the issue is being investigated - steering and brake assistance failure is a serious safety recall issue so if the dealer won't action it awsk for a print of the logs and send them to JLR yourself.

All the faults you are suffering will be logged in diagnostics, if you get fobbed off by the dealer a specialist can print off the error reports to evidence the problems and then take it direct to JLR - if its sw bugs on the model then they need to fix them, if its faults specific to your car and a sw reflash doesn't cure them then they need to replace the ECUs under warranty.

That’s very helpful thanks. I think the dealer has muttered about software in the past but not sure if they actually did anything about it

That is shocking stuff. I'm no lawyer etc but I bet if you found one they might be interested in pursuing LR for something as critical as that.

What exactly happened? My guess is the steering suddenly went very stiff and same with the brakes? I have lost steering power assistance on an old Saab, but thankfully, I was just trying to to park the car and a turn it off and off again seemed to do the trick.

LR's incompetence to design a a reliable product never ceases to amaze me. I expect my £8k Disco to have the off glitch, but I wouldn't be expecting that of 2016 Vogue!

The best 4x4xfar....when it works.

Yes pretty much that, half way round corner steering became extremely heavy (could barely move wheel) and brakes became very hard to press. No loss of power from engine and dash lights stayed on. It was pretty dangerous to be honest.

Land Rover customer service has been pretty terrible. Still no replacement vehicle. Any idea how one can get them to take things more seriously?

What methods of communication are you using? For things like this, I think letters by registered post are the way to go. You then have an argument on

Are you a member of any of the forums? The Full Fat RR site is probably the biggest RR site and that probably mentions similar or the exact issue that you experienced.

I know the Disco3 site has a section dedicated to Land Rover customer services. Worth having a look there too.

Sorry I can't be more help.

What car magazine may be able to help. Worth a try anyway - good way to get some negative publicity on your side

Some direct contact info:

Should your concerns be urgent please do not hesitate to contact the Customer Relationship Centre on 0370 500 0500 or lradvice@jaguarlandrover.com or jagccrc@jaguarlandrover.com.

Also register with fullfatRR.com - there is a thread for LR customer services with a direct contact you can PM.

if you get no joy with the CR team then take it to the top and express your disatisfaction with a 'poor customer experience sold as a quality engineered product' to:
