Deployable steps - keeping them out?

My Father has the latest shape FFRR with the deployable steps. He loves the car but really wants to be able to leave the steps out when leaving it in car parks to stop people opening their doors onto the bodywork, unfortunately seems to happen with big cars like this.

They were dealer fitted so have the button to keep them out for cleaning, but as soon as the car is locked they retract again so no good for car parks. Is there a software fiddle available? (I know BMW's were always easily coded for this sort of thing but no idea about LR) The car is still fairly new and under OEM warranty so messing around hardwiring switches in is probably not the best idea. It's a real shame as it was sold to us by the dealer that the steps could be kept out (they were a few grand extra), but because of this and previous damage he often opts to use his other cars instead.

I experienced the same, I was hoping I could leave them deployed in tight car parks but even when using the button to leave them deployed, as soon as you lock the car they retract. Perhaps ask your dealer if he could change something in the software but I doubt this would be possible.
