At this price point there seems a good choice of early D4 or TDV8 RR - even some 4.4 facelift.

Which way would you jump for the least pain??

I'd go D4. More practical and you will get more for your money compared to the RR,s as generally speaking they are more expensive.

There isn't really a no pain option with any Land Rover. I can assure you it will go wrong and it will be expensive. I certainly recommend a warranty.

Rather different vehicles; do you prefer practicality or luxury wafting? Try both and see what you think, I suppose.
I disagree with your other point; it might go wrong and it could be expensive. But, that's true of any used car in this class. An approved used warranty for a FFRR will be around £150 per month because main dealers are useless and expensive. Aftermarket warranty? Hmmm I wouldn't trust them.
