After much procrastination and various distractions my wife and I have pretty much settled on buying a Range Rover of the 2019 5.0 Autobiography petrol variety. Insurance quote is now fairly sensible whereas a few months ago it was a showstopper.

We'd likely go for an approved used one with warranty to give us some protection however from my research I understand the 5.0 is a fairly robust car. Happy to be corrected and any common issues to look for would be appreciated.

Are there any options that owners consider must haves, or are the Autobiographys full loaded?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's the same engine but older l322 5l s/c cars can need timing chain replacements which is not cheap.

I think it's the same engine, some owners talk about similar chain issues on the L405 too.

Seeing if there's a deal to be done on one with LR extended warranty. Not sure I'm brave enough to take one without it.

I understand that the chain issues were sorted but the time the L405 came around. Same engine essentially though with a fw minor tweaks

I've just done a deal on a 4.4 SDV8 diesel, and the quote to extend the LR warranty with the dealership for year 2 was around £4.5k. Apparently 3 litres and under its around £1500 a year but over that engine size the numbers are much bigger.

Land Rover quoted me £2k for one year on a 2019 5.0 subject to inspection.

Was yours an approved used ?

Yes, from a main dealer.

Just re-read the quote and its £4,599 for 2 years, so I’m incorrect, my bad.

That's not bad, I'd be happy with that. Despite my thread title I'm now open to the SDV8 too so long as it's with LR warranty.

I’ve had one since new, now up to about 55k miles.

No major issues, but am growing concerned about potential wear to the active rear diff which I’m sure is a bit clunkier than when new. I do use it properly, whether on the road or for towing (it really doesn’t bother with 3t on the back), which may be a contributory factor.

The only thing I changed from standard, aside from the active diff, when I specified mine was to get the slightly less luxurious rear seats. Bit less recline to them than the plusher one, but more boot space as a result. You’d need to be a proper RR geek to spot the difference.

A £40 dongle from Amazon can convert the standard CarPlay to wireless CarPlay.

Overall it’s good enough that I haven’t even bothered looking at a new one.

Noooo. 5.0 petrol is a peach and bloody reliable too.

Just to cap this off, we decided against a Range Rover in the end. Used Approved had very little choice and we just couldn't reconcile the reputation of the vehicles and the brand. Plus we've already got one car that returns 17 mpg.

Still a RR itch that I'd like to scratch one day though.

Went a completely different direction and bought an i8 from BMW as we've got an old Volvo estate for dogs, tools and tip runs.

Picked up my 20 plate P525 Autobiography last week.

Insurance is now doable. Been looking for over a year and wanted one for quite a bit longer. Spending more time searching than was good for me and was seriously getting in the way of work. Concluded in the end it was costing me money not buying one. How's that for man maths.

Yes it's going to be thirsty as I'm still in the new toy period and enjoying the surge but the upside is the fuel tank is huge. So as long as I avoid the MPG calculator on the dash I'll be fine.
