On the slim chance they will rethink it, it's not that your Z or the OPs Land Rover will get cheaper, more that it'll be your M4 that goes UP.

I think what is tricky about this is that it has been applied retrospectively. When someone bought a “56” plate car they knew what the normal tax would be. Many years after that decision to purchase, the government has applied a tax that may well have had an influence on the original purchase decision. Same for any second hand owners purchase decision before this was introduced.
The most tricky thing is that it will encourage older cars to be scrapped. If that leads to the supply of more new cars, the planet loses.

My 5.0 Supercharged is also £735 for 12 months VED and give it a few years and before we know it, that will be £800 and maybe 10-20 years, its going to be £1000.
The only way you can look at it, is its the older SUZ that have the higher rate of tax,so you have to do the sums on the cheaper purchase price and see if if it still works out.
The bigger issue is always the maintenance costs for older more complicated Land Rovers and I can certainly confirm that L322s fall into that bracket.
IE, a newer L405 5.0 Supercharged is practically double the cpst but you get marginally better MPG thanks to the 8SP box and lower weight but insurance is more and VED is broadly the same.
The 2013> Sport is cheaper, but a different proposition compared to a L405/L322.
I am also thinking about throwing in the towel on my L322 as its really hard to justify at the moment. They are truly excellent cars, but ruinous to run and you find this a common phrase amongst LR owners and that included people who buy three year old LRs.
