Started getting low battery warning in my D5 which is coming up to 6 years old and done 42k miles

Assume it probably needs a new battery which is not a big issue given it is still on original

Anyone else had similar and how long did your battery last?

About the same on our previous L494 RRS. It failed properly while my wife was away visiting her parents. Caused no end of grief with lights flashing, locks not locking, the boot not being functional and more.

I ended up borrowing a car to drive 250miles to buy a battery at Halfords, climbing through to the boot, hauling a full size spare (you won't have to worry about that one), undoing the compressor and switching the batteries over. Not fun.

Yeah exactly that’s my fear what will happen if I dont replace it now. Work fine on the drive until you are 250 miles from home and then die! Good to know thank you

Once you buy a new one.
You’ll need to tell the car it’s got a new one so it can charge it properly.

Given how heavy they can be on batteries. 6 years is fair.

Thanks how do you tell the car it has a new battery?

You’ll need a code reader to update the BMS so the alternator doesn’t overcharge and kill the new battery.

Thanks for the tip on this. Having done a bit of research online it seems if you dont have a reader (which I dont) you also have to replace the BMS (about £70) in case anyone else has a similar issue

Try your local Land Rover specialist if they can do it for you and how much it will be.

Or if Halfords can do it as they sometimes have the kit if you buy the battery from them.
