Hi all,
Need to start pulling my track MX5 on a trailer to and from different tracks, I have a D300 Defender 90 so I’m in the market to buy a trailer, I’m aware of 90 being a short wheel based pulling longer trailers will be a problem so looking at 14ft trailer and with the MX5 weighing just at 1 ton. Anyone here pulled/pulling trailers with their defender 90 and any problems/advise before I buy a trailer. Do I only need to look at trailers with brakes due to the short wheel based?
Thanks in advance

You'll have to get a braked trailer, max unbraked capacity is 750kg.

The 90 is rated to pull 3500kg, so get a twin axle with a tyre rack etc without worry.

Brian James trailers at allfit are probably your best bet.

A new Defender 90 is still a big heavy car rated at 3500kg so it should make pretty light work of towing a well loaded decent car transporter.

Go twin axle from Ifor or BJ and pay particular attention to the nose weight the first time you load up and you'll be fine. Once you're happy with how it's loaded, make a mark or something on the trailer bed so that you can easily and quickly position the MX5 on future trips.

It's rated at 3.5t but will pull 5t up pretty steep hills.

Probably too late to make a difference but worth noting that it’s actually the ratio of the wheelbase and the distance between the rear axle and the tow hitch that is relevant towing stability rather than just the wheelbase itself

It’s why things like large sprinter vans often tow like crap as, despite the long wheelbase, they have a huge rear overhang

It’s also why old defender 90’s seem to tow better than they have any right to
