Hi all

Appreciate a bit of a tasteless topic, but we have loved our D350 first edition for 3 years and are now ready to change.

We love the current car, things have moved on a little and so can now justify the extra spend although will likely buy lightly used.

Pros for the Range - basically the ultimate of a car we love

Octa - in some ways a bit cooler / bit more effort made and would feel ‘newer’ to us as not had similar before.

Appreciate any thoughts

Ultimately it's going to come down to personal preference, really - both are amazing cars albeit in slightly different ways.

What's the use case for this car, and do you have any other cars that you use? This might help focus it towards one or the other.

Are you currently in a Defender? Or a D350 RRS?

I've not driven the Octa, but keep hearing and reading very positive feedback. It does feel like an engineering marvel and I'd love to own one. My only hesitate would be the uncertainty around values - surely the depreciation curve will be steeper than the RRS SV?

Business partner has the SV, I'd take the Octa every single time

Currently in range sport.

100% road - absolute mixture of short and long trips.

The only other consideration after a weekend of browsing, is a Cayenne in either GTS or Turbo e hybrid

I think you would be off your rocker to put that sort of money into such a problematic company tbh.

I also question £150k on a defender. Bonkers.

To summarise, are you mad mate?

I would personally be looking at a spicy Cayenne or maybe the RSQ8 at that money.

Octa all day long BUT make sure you spend some time inside one first.

I do know a few owners / prospective owners that sold / backed out of their Octa orders as they could not live with the interior having come from a G Class / RRS / Cayennes.

Test drove the Octa first today - Sport SV booked in for tomorrow.

Love the look of the Octa but given it’s a 630bhp V8 it sounded very muted. Looks aside I would describe it as a very nice car but not making the most of the engine.

Barely even rumbles on start up.

Whilst I’d never buy a normal defender, I’d struggle to justify the Octa premium. That said, the ride quality and handling for the size of the lump are very impressive.

Report back on the SV tomorrow.

My prediction is you’ll find it flawed in almost every way, it’s good but it’s too hard for an SUV whilst not giving you the feel you’d expect.

I m in a similar position but coming from a V8 110 Defender. We utterly love our Defender, it is the first new car I have kept nearly 3 years. Options are a Cayenne Turbo - (£20k plus discounts on these currently), RR V8 (also discounts) or an Octa. I ve driven them all and I think the Octa is the best fit for me, (it s a more polished V8 Defender after all).

The issue that someone has pointed out, is that they are crazy money. My V8 has lost about £10k per year, (I’ve had some very fair part-ex offers), I worry the Octa will not hold its value in the same way.

That aside, if you can find one without all the silly carbon or a matte paint job, and a discount(!), then they are way cooler than an SV and good fun.
