Through some misfortune and a Skoda yeti we’ve found ourselves in an XC90, BMW X5 and now a Discovery. I’ve always steered away from these types of vehicles (Mrs Backtobasics loves them), but now I see the charm of a big comfy SUV. Due to the discovery being the last one in the line I’m thinking about a petrol (Mhev?) ‘23 plate range rover sport (latest shape). If I review Reddit or other generic sites I get the usual terrible reliability line. Here there are threads but again generic and the OP’s get told to buy a Lexus.

So coming to the horses mouth for some advice and guidance on reliability / running costs. Thanks.

I have a 2021 RRS 3.0 with the i6 MHEV. While the model (L494) is probably not the one you're talking about (which could be the L461), there's the potential 'learnings' about the engine I have.

There was a recall for the Defender with this engine when it came out for a pump that squealed. I had that on the RRS even though the recall wasn't listed. Ideally that was fixed by the time your newer model came out with that engine.

I also had the DC-DC converter fail, and it was replaced last year under 'gesture of goodwill' warranty. Again, ideally JLR had released an updated box of tech by the time they got to your model with that engine.

Other than that, the suggestion is that weak points on the L461 are linked to:
- Infotainment & vehicle software instabilities.
- 12V & 48V electrical sensitivity
- Air suspension & dynamic response faults
- PHEV issues
- DC-DC issues
- Water ingress
- Steering & brake oddities
- Interior & body quality issues

Main issues are electrical in nature it seems

I've run a late '23 L461 RRS PHEV for the past year and approximately 8k miles, with no issues at all. Software updates can be erratic in terms of when they're delivered, and I've had occasional glitches with very minor things like the nav not showing traffic data, but so far it has been a very painless ownership experience. No mechanical or electrical problems - yet!

Which is all fine and dandy, but one person/vehicle does not a statistically valid sample size make.
And your point is ?

Feels like tempting fate but i have a 24 plate PHEV. Was on 4k miles when i got it and is on 28k miles now.
The only fly in the ointment has been the lumbar support which seems to have amnesia, otherwise has been fine.

This discovery has the same issue, seems to think I’m the weight I was at 25 even though I’ve saved seat setting for my older frame size
