What engine is this please p400e
Discussion
This is a single turbo 4cyl 2.0 petrol engine with quite a large hybrid battery. The petrol engine is supported by a 100bhp electric motor which is located within the bell housing.
The 2.0 petrol engine shares the the same god awful camchain design as the diesel which runs two sets of chains, one at the front of the engine and one at the back.
The chains do need changing. If memory serves, it's about 80-90k and it's a big job. Budget £3k to get it done as it's an engine out job.
Combining the petrol and electric motors gives you 400bhp and it's fine. Certainly better than this 300bhp with the petrol engine on its own.
You do loose some boot space with the battery and that means the boot floor is higher than a normal L405 and when I looked at the Sport with the same drivetrain, I didn't really like the reduced boot capacity so went with a D5 with the 2.0 petrol engine.
Once the battery has run out, your sat with a 2.7t 4x4 and you can expect terrible mpg. My 2.0 Si4 D5 is averaging about 20mpg.
The petrol ingenium doesn't suffer the same issues as the SD4 does, but in all fairness, there are much less of them on the road compared to the SD4.
