Hi fellow business chaps,

My business is looking at starting to take card payments in the new year. Mostly for deposits on courses we are running, so it will probably be a very small amount in total, made up of lots of small amounts. Now, I have tried to find out the best (read least expensive) way of doing this and it is a minefield. I know I need a virtual terminal as this will mainly be done over the phone, but costs seem to be astronomical. The best I can find so far is 2.7% of transaction value plus 20p, this even applies for debit cards so it seems. I am going about this wrong or do any of you have pointers for where to go?

Thanks

akirk

Look at the Federation for Small Business - often very competitive deals

Never thought about that, that's a good start. Thanks.

Have you looked at Worldpay? We're with them and their charges are the lowest out there for us.

Zinc by world pay is good, no fee, no monthly, 2.75% for me.

Effectively pay as you go.

We use AIB - pretty decent rates - seems to work out about 1.25% for us plus about £30 a month.

I've only used them for ecommerce but I believe Stripe provides a virtual terminal. 1.4% plus 20p and no monthly charge.

I also use Stripe and they *touch wood* seem very good.

I have never used them for phone payments, only for Ecommerce.

It doesn't look like Stripe is cheap for debit cards though. I pay 0.2% on debit cards with Lloyds Cardnet.
