Anyone sell on Etsy ?

I'm thinking of looking at Etsy to sell a few products and wondered if anyone can help with the fees they charge. I have had a look and it seems there are fees all over the place. 5% here, 5% there, 0.25% somewhere else. I'm not sure if I have missed more fees somewhere else ?

We do and funnily enough reviewed the fees last night. They basically break down like this

Listing fees
14p (20 cents) for one listing for three months - bear in mind, if you have more than one of an item, you will be charged 14p to re-list each time you sell

Selling fees
5% of item value

Payment fees
4% of total order value + 20p

Delivery Fees
5% of the shipping cost

So a £10 item with £2 shipping would cost £1.42 to sell

Listing: 14p (20 cents)
Selling: 50p
Payment: 48p + 20p
Delivery: 10p

The wife has a small business and was selling on Etsy. She's now on Shopify as the costs were becoming an issue. She said that Etsy was basically taking 20-25% of all her sales. Shopify costs work out about 10-15% iirc?

You need to factor in generating the traffic to her website which has a cost on money or time. Sometimes 3rd part platforms are cost effective BUT always try to get the second order direct.

Over 90% of her traffic has been and still is Instagram. I don't get it, but that's what she tells me. Since binning Ets she's been as busy as ever, so there must be something in that?

If I remember correctly, Big Cartel(https://www.bigcartel.com/) did not have any transaction fees, and it was free to use up to certain number of products and etc. I think if you got enough traffic, Big Cartel is much more affordable, but Liverpool DS would give you the best advice, he is the expert on online shopping here.

There's also Folksy, which is the UK equivalent of Etsy, but it's been years since I looked at them so I'm not sure what their fee structure or popularity is like nowadays.

I made a mental note to come back to this thread, didn't intend to be so long doing it!

We have an agreement with an artist to put his artworks onto tee shirts and bags etc, bought the equipment, set up in the conservatory. All good.

We looked at Amazon and Etsy and thought the fees structure looked costly, but of course failed to see that it bring you the market.

So we opened a store with shopify.

We've done a very minimal amount of marketing and pulled in a few orders, it works very well, it generates a little extra income.

But it stops when we stop pushing. Its at a standstill. We got 1 order at Christmas.

I've tried to do a few giveaways on relevant facebook groups, not yet tried their advertising, £14 for 100k adverts pushed out to phones, if that got us 3 orders it would be ok.

To be honest, we've not got a clue what we are doing! Its a sideline, we're not dependant on it, ut even so I'd like to get it up and running, an extra £1k a month would be fab, that means 100 orders.

100 orders a day would be a nightmare!
