Good afternoon all! :) Not sure whether this should be in the Business or Computing section - it's a bit of both.

I'm currently in the very early stages of starting my own business. At the moment, the company does not exist, but I have a name in mind and want to register the domain name as it's still currently available.

Is it possible to register the domain name now in my name and then transfer it to the business once it actually exists or should I go about this another way?

I'm probably worrying (for want of a better word) about nothing, but it's something small I can sort out now if possible.

Cheers
Paul

Nothing to stop you doing so, although you may incur a transfer / change-of-ownership fee in doing so depending on registrar.

There is no requirement to register "business" names in the UK. If you set up your business as a formal Limited Company, the company will need to be registered at Companies Hose.

Be aware, .uk domains have a long winded 'ownership' transfer process that requires both parties to write a letter to nominet AND pay a large fee.

.com .net .org DO NOT.

If you need somewhere decent AND cheap to register them, just check out the permanent sponsor of the PH Computing forums

Thanks for the replies guys - I think I will hang on if possible until the company is formed as it will be a ltd and I'm after a .co.uk domain.

No problem Jamie - have already decided on the host and you know them well!

Do the Ltd Co bit first. There is always the possibility that the name you want to use is not available.
