We usually use recruitment consultants to hire our accountants, but we haven't needed to hire a receptionist/administrator for nearly 20 years. And even then we didn't have to advertise for the job.

What have people found is the best way to look/advertise for this type of role? There won't be anything specific/specialist about it.

Thanks.

We had a few issues with trying to employ admins. I don't know if it was personality issues or we expected too much (technical business) but first couple didn't last long.

If you need someone that has a vague knowledge of accountants then be clear about that and see if you can get someone from the industry already.

We use Indeed for administrative type roles. As Evanivitch has said the advert needs to be clear in the role requirements.

You could try LinkedIn as it will let you target a region and there will be role profiles that you could borrow and tweak to your role.

We know how hard recruitment is, so we'll be flexible on the role, with core requirements a priority.

LinkedIn is where I advertised. We hit very lucky and she's been with us nearly 10 years, now as Ops Manager. She was a teacher beforehand.

Good Idea. Also Indeed.

Internal Promotion? Internal Recommendation of 3rd party?

We got someone through LinkedIn although also had options from a recruiter.

May seem obvious but definitely suggest hiring based on attitude and aptitude rather than industry experience. Ours came from a completely different sector, but she's resourceful, keen and solves problems - spot on.

I agree. Aptitude, attitude and a willingness to learn, self teach and be proactive to improve things (even small things like filing, processes, etc)...
