So either Weight Watchers in the USA lost £38k a day for 62 years or it was bought by some venture capital outfit who have loaded it with debt and now heading over the horizon with their ill gotten gains and a phoenix rises from the ashes.

Rogue venture capitalists is possible. My guess is that the loss is rooted in their food manufacturing and distribution business. To do that at scale requires some hefty financing.
