Are HMRC confused with MTD
Discussion
I guess that makes sense although HMRC's use of English in the letter was far from clear.
Fortunately it turned out I don't need to engage in MTD for Income Tax after all. However, I'd understood it was only introduced from April 2026. Perhaps that explains your previous point about OP being signed up for a "testing phase".

Yes the first compulsory returns are for the 2026-27 tax year (for those earning over £50k) but last year you could sign up for a testing phase if you wanted to, although I'm not sure if you had to do an SA as well. Unfortunately I cannot avoid it & am struggling to get to grips with Xero.Fortunately it turned out I don't need to engage in MTD for Income Tax after all.
