We think its a good idea to have some external security at my unit and got a quote from the local CCTV firm but they want £3240 for the following kit installed on site:
1 x COP 4 port digital recorder (302gb)
4 x COP hi-res low light camera
2 x dummy cameras
4 x Auto Iris lenses 3-8mm
6 x External heated housings
1 x 500m roll coax RG-59 cable
1 x 200m roll CS1208 cable
1 x 14" monitor

The price doesn't seem too bad but I can do a Google search for individual items and get the price down for a DIY installation. Problem is that I have no experiance of CCTV therefore I also have no idea whether the items I have located are actually comparable with the above bits.
Also whats the deal with having 2 types of cable? I naively assumed that you would run coax to each camera and back to the recorder, so what is CS1208 cable?
Any pointers to an equivalent packaged solution would be appreciated. I've been to the security websites but it's all a bit meaningless to me :)

I believe fellow Cerbera ownin PHer russellm is in the business. Perhaps try dropping him a line.

On another tack, do you really want to tell the whole world that you're planning for some of your cameras to be dummy ones?

Well quite. However as all the cameras are in identical housings it shouldn't be possible to tell which two are dummies. You feeling lucky punk?
