I have a very good idea that has been patented by someone in Japan only. However nothing has been done about it.

Any suggestions, or should I just forget about it?

You say Japan only? The patent is registered in Japan only?

If so, then you can register for other countries indivisually AFAIR.

Apparently you cant though. Its no longer a "unique" idea...

Presuming the patent has been granted, then there is not a lot you can do. If it is granted in Japan, and you try to register the same idea in the UK, the examiner will, after around 6 to 12 months, have a look around in the public domain (it has to be public) and see that your idea has already 'exists'in Japan. He will then come back to you in his report and tell you which area of your 'invention' has already been 'invented'!
You can then change your invention so as to not include the part that has already been 'invented'.....

It is a complicated business!

Depending on the idea, there are potentially ways round this - however would need to know a little more about the idea...by all means PM me if you want to discuss more.

I understand what you are getting at, but if my idea was “the wheel” and Mr Jap has already invented “the wheel” I cant see how you would get around it unless I made it square which then means its crap…

Really depends on what the idea is. Can't say a great deal more than that without knowing more.

If its a good idea and its not patented, simply make it and sell it.............just dont try and sell it in Japan....
