Hi All,

Just a quick piece of advice from those in the know on the web.

I recently invested in a web design company - nothing fancy - just a couple of talented guys and it fits nicely into my other business.

Today they were sent an email tipping them off that another designer has totally ripped off their site and claimed it as their own. It appears that it's not the first time this designer has nobbled someone else's work and tried to pass it off as their own.

Naturally its not the biggest scandal in the world but it is annoying.

Does anyone know a relevant course of action or how web copyright works?

Cheers in advance

One of our clients found a competitor had totally ripped off the design we did for them. They were even using their logo!

Depending on contracts, a website is usually the responsibility of the company it represents, and this includes protecting their copyright and image. If another company is passing themselves off or blatantly plagiarising their design or content, then action can be taken.

Our client wrote them a very strong letter through their solicitor. Needless to say, the other website was changed rather rapidly.
